Bio
Zina Akekue is a lawyer and legal researcher whose work spans litigation, intellectual property, AI and technology law, human rights, dispute resolution, corporate and commercial practice, and institutional legal work.
Her legal experience includes work across private practice, judicial environments, regulatory institutions, and emerging technology contexts. She currently works as a Legal Specialist at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and serves as a Senior Associate at TLP & Co.
Earlier in her legal career, Zina worked with Perchstone & Graeys LP, completed judicial experience at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, and worked as both a Legal Secretary and Legal Assistant at Sliind & Partners. These experiences exposed her to legal research, court processes, dispute resolution, commercial practice, and the practical demands of legal administration.
Her interests extend into intellectual property, artificial intelligence and technology law, human rights, fashion law, property law, and corporate and commercial practice. She also has experience in talent management, leadership development, public relations, and communication.
Beyond conventional legal work, Zina has worked in hiring and talent management and previously served in public-relations and social-media roles. This combination of law, communication, and people-centred work gives her a useful perspective on how regulation, institutional policy, technology, and human behaviour intersect.
At SILT, Zina contributes to the legal and governance layer of the institute’s work. Her role includes supporting technology-policy research, intellectual-property strategy, institutional agreements, research-risk review, legal documentation, and the development of responsible governance frameworks around AI-supported learning systems.
